Why You Need to Test New Apps on the Right Mobile Device Mix

To meet customer expectations, every company with a mobile presence wants its apps to provide an exceptional user experience on every device or operating system their customers are using. With today's fragmented market of thousands of devices and operating system combos, where do companies begin when thinking about which devices and OSes their apps should be tested on? The test coverage mix should target what your customers are using, as not doing so can have dire consequences. App glitches at major banks like NatWest can bring business operations to a temporary halt, and it happens all the time. App bugs occur for a variety of reasons. Don't let testing on the wrong devices be one of those reasons. With that in mind, Perfecto Mobile released a benchmark report called the Mobile Test Coverage Index. The quarterly index aggregates data from more than 4,000 device profiles and 360,000 hours of exclusive Perfecto Mobile customer usage data, mobile market share data and future device release timelines to create a list of the 32 most relevant mobile devices. The report provides an index for reaching 30 percent, 50 percent and 80 percent test coverage in North America, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the U.K. The device selections address five key sectors: device model, screen size, GA date, hardware system and recommended operating systems. This eWEEK slide show offers seven takeaways from the Mobile Test Coverage Index.
