Customers will get one free year of Amazon Prime service when they activate one of Samsung's latest smartphones with Sprint.

Sprint is giving new and existing customers a free year of Amazon Prime when they activate one of Samsung's latest smartphones on the Sprint network and lease or purchase the handset.

The offer is good on a Samsung Galaxy S6, Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ or Samsung Note 5 smartphone, according to a Nov. 6 announcement by Sprint. The year's free service with Amazon Prime is valued at $99 and provides free two-day shipping for Amazon customers on thousands of items as well as free access to thousands of movies, television episodes through Prime Video and unlimited ad-free music streaming through Amazon Prime Music. Also included is unlimited photo storage through Amazon's Prime Photos service, according to Sprint.

For existing Sprint customers, the offer applies to a service upgrade or the addition of a new line of service. Customers can use a Sprint Lease, the Sprint Easy Pay program or a new two-year contract to get the phone and the Amazon Prime offer, or they can buy a handset at full retail price, according to the offer.

The free year of Amazon Prime promotion is good through Nov. 30 and is available at Sprint stores and Sprint booths inside RadioShack stores, or by calling Sprint at 1-800-Sprint1. The offer is only good for one device per Sprint account.

New and existing Sprint customers can also take advantage of a special offer to lease a new Samsung Galaxy S6 32GB smartphone for $10 per month or the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 32GB for $17 per month with the trade-in of a qualifying smartphone. The phones that qualify for the offer are the Apple iPhone 5c, iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, Samsung Galaxy S4, Samsung Galaxy S4 Active, Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom G, Samsung Galaxy S5, Samsung Galaxy S5 Active, Samsung Galaxy S5 Sport, Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini, Samsung Galaxy S6, Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+, Samsung Galaxy Note 3, Samsung Galaxy Note 4, Samsung Galaxy Note 5, Samsung Galaxy Note Edge, HTC One M8, HTC One M9, LG G3 and LG G4. The trade-in offer is only available in Sprint retail stores and Sprint at RadioShack through Nov. 25.

"Getting the best price in data on new Samsung smartphones and a year of Amazon Prime with activation is the best way to kick start the holiday season," Roger Solé, senior vice president of marketing for Sprint, said in a statement. "It comes just in time to watch all of the great, new Amazon Original series premiering this fall, plus with free Two-Day Shipping, our customers can complete all their holiday shopping from the comfort of their own home."

In October, Sprint announced enhanced WiFi calling capabilities for Sprint iPhone users thanks to the rollout of Apple's latest iOS 9.1 operating system, according to an earlier eWEEK story. Back in April, Sprint unveiled WiFi calling capabilities for customers with iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s smartphones, but the latest iOS 9.1 update offers the capabilities to more iPhone models and adds the shared-number capability, according to Sprint. WiFi calling lets users make phone calls over WiFi when normal cellular connections are weak or not possible, which vastly extends the range and service of the devices.

The broadened capabilities let users receive an incoming phone call on one device and take the call on another device, whether it is their iPad, iPod Touch, Apple Watch or Mac computer. To use the new enhanced one-number capability, customers must update their Apple mobile devices that run iOS to the latest iOS 9.1 version, and then ensure that they are running the latest Apple operating system software on their Apple Watch, MacBook and Mac computers, according to Sprint. The latest iOS 9.1 update will bring the enhanced WiFi calling services to iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c devices.
