T-Mobile has announced a new initiative to sell Apple’s latest iPhone 6s and 6s Plus smartphones for as little as $5 a month if customers trade in eligible late-model smartphones.
Earlier in September, T-Mobile had announced a special $20 a month rate for 18 months for a 16GB iPhone 6s through the company’s Jump On Demand program, with zero down.
Now, however, T-Mobile is dropping its prices even more, unveiling a $5 a month rate if a customer trades in a working and undamaged Apple iPhone 6 or 6 Plus, Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge or a Galaxy Note 5 smartphone. No money down is required for the deal.
If a customer trades in an iPhone 5s or a Samsung Note 4 or Samsung Galaxy S5 smartphone on a 16GB iPhone 6s, they would pay $10 per month for 18 months under the new promotion. If they trade in almost any other phone, the rate would be $15 per month.
T-Mobile customers also are eligible to get larger capacity iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus models as well under the lower-priced Jump On Demand offerings.
A 128GB iPhone 6s will sell for $199.99 down and $3 a month with a trade-in of an Apple iPhone 6 or 6 Plus, Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge or a Galaxy Note 5 smartphone, or for $8 per month with the trade of an iPhone 5s or a Samsung Note 4 or Samsung Galaxy S5 smartphone. On the trade of almost any other phone, the rate would be $13 per month.
For a 16GB iPhone 6s Plus, customers would pay no money down and $9 per month if they trade in an Apple iPhone 6 or 6 Plus, Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge or a Galaxy Note 5 smartphone. They would pay $14 a month if they trade in an iPhone 5s or a Samsung Note 4 or Samsung Galaxy S5 smartphone, or $19 a month if they trade in almost any other phone.
For a 128GB iPhone 6s Plus, customers would pay $199.99 down and $7 a month if they trade in an Apple iPhone 6 or 6 Plus, Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge or a Galaxy Note 5 smartphone. They would pay $12 a month if they trade in an iPhone 5s or a Samsung Note 4 or Samsung Galaxy S5 smartphone, or $17 a month if they trade in almost any other phone.
T-Mobile also will pay up to $650 per line in switching costs and early termination fees for new customers who want to move to T-Mobile.
“With these incredible $5 and $10 a month deals, we’re giving customers just one more reason to come to T-Mobile,” John Legere, the president and CEO of T-Mobile, said in a statement. “This is a deal that only the Un-carrier could create, let alone make into a reality—and the crazy demand we’re already seeing tells me the carriers’ customers just aren’t buying their [nonsense] anymore. For your new iPhone the choice couldn’t be clearer.”
T-Mobile is maintaining its regular Jump On Demand rates, which start at $20 a month for a new iPhone 6s 16GB, for customers who are getting a new iPhone without a trade-in.
Apple’s latest iPhone 6s models were unveiled Sept. 9 by the company in a splashy two-hour event in San Francisco.
The new iPhone 6s includes a 4.7-inch display while the 6s Plus includes a 5.5-inch display, both of which are wrapped in a new stronger cover glass. Both new phones are built around Apple’s fastest smartphone chip, the A9, which is a third generation 64-bit chip.
Meanwhile, the cameras on the latest devices also got a major upgrade, through the addition of an all-new 12MP iSight camera that has 50 percent more pixels than earlier devices. Both phones also are now capable of 4K video, run on iOS 9 and include new 5MP FaceTime HD front cameras.
Other iPhone 6s updates include higher performance, better cameras and a new feature called 3D Touch that adds new input capabilities for users to help them get the most out of the devices. 3D Touch is the latest generation of Apple’s established multi-touch input system. It not only recognizes familiar gestures, but also the amount of force being provided by a user on the screen.
The new iPhones will go on sale on Sept. 25 in the U.S., China, France, the United Kingdom, Japan, Australia and other nations.
Prices for the iPhone 6s from Apple start at $199 on a two-year contract for a 16GB model and range to $399 for a 128GB version. Prices for the iPhone 6s Plus start at $299 for a 16GB model and range to $499 for a 128GB version.
Apple is also introducing a new iPhone Upgrade Program that will allow customers to pay a monthly rate for their device, starting at $32 per month for 24 months, and allow them to get a new model each year.
