MetroPCS' $50 monthly rate offer for unlimited 4G data is only available through April 5, but users can maintain the service for as long as they remain customers.
MetroPCS is now offering a $50-per-month rate for unlimited mobile 4G LTE data, talk and text for new or existing prepaid monthly customers. The special promotional rate is $10 off the regular monthly rate of $60 a month and is available through April 5.
Users can then keep the $50-a-month rate for as long as they remain customers, according to the company, a division of T-Mobile USA. There is no planned ending date for the special rate to customers as long as they sign up by the deadline. MetroPCS services are provided through T-Mobile's nationwide 4G LTE network.
The $60 monthly rate includes taxes and regulatory fees.
Customers can also get special deals on two different LTE smartphones as part of their new service. Users can choose between a Samsung Galaxy Light phone for $49 and an LG Optimus F60 for $59, according to the company.
The $50 promotional plan is available only to customers with MetroPCS GSM phones with LTE connectivity and is not available with Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) phones or existing phones brought over by customers, according to the company.
"MetroPCS has a solid track record of giving customers the best value in prepaid wireless and schooling the competition at the same time," John Legere, president and CEO of T-Mobile, said in a statement. "MetroPCS is at it again today with 4G LTE Unlimited for just $50 bucks, the best value anywhere."
Customers can still choose from monthly prepaid plans that offer varying amounts of 4G LTE data capacity. As an added bonus, MetroPCS is bumping those capped plans up with an extra 1GB of free data each month.
For $40 per month, customers get 2GB of high-speed 4G LTE data (up from 1GB) as well as unlimited talk and text, while for $50 per month, customers get 4GBG of high-speed 4G LTE data (up from 3GB), plus unlimited talk and text. Data beyond those caps is still unlimited, but is provided at much lower speeds. The extra 1GB of free data is being added to customer accounts immediately, according to the company.
MetroPCS isn't the only prepaid cellular brand with a special offer lately. Earlier this week, Virgin Mobile, a prepaid brand offered by Sprint, unveiled several new no-contract data-sharing smartphone plans that allow customers to share up to 12GB of 3G and 4G LTE data over four lines for $115 per month, eWEEK
reported. A two-line no-contract package is priced at $65 for up to 4GB of data per month, while a three-line no-contract package will cost $90 per month.
The new shareable no-contract Virgin Mobile Data Done Right phone plans are available to Virgin Mobile customers exclusively through Walmart. The plans, available immediately, include unlimited talk and texting for users.
Customers have their choices of four smartphones with the new phone plans, including the newly updated HTC Desire 510, which sells for $99.88; the LG Tribute, which sells for $79.88; the LG Volt, which sells for $149.88; and the Samsung Galaxy Core Prime, which sells for $129.88. Additional devices that are available for the new packages will be unveiled in February.
Each of the new phones is pre-loaded with the Virgin Mobile data-sharing application. Every multi-line plan also comes with a free Mobile Hotspot feature, making it even easier for customers to share data across WiFi-enabled devices.
