Earthlink, the second-largest Net service provider, may be No. 2 for a reason. The companys Atlanta servers go down more than occasionally, leaving DSL subscribers like me stranded. You can call customer service to report the problem, but that requires waiting on the phone, often for long periods. Theres a recording when you call that tells how long the wait is. But the last time I phoned, the official "five-minute" wait was actually three times as long.
When I finally got through, a pleasant young man told me the Atlanta servers were having problems. "Does that happen more often in Atlanta than in other areas?" I asked. "Yes, it seems that way," he admitted. Wonder if he wouldve been so up front if he knew I was a reporter?
