HP, Cisco Networking Gear Work Together in New Private Cloud Data Center
Chillers Keep the Massive Facility Cool
Massive chillers stand outside the 990,000-square-foot Quality Technical Services data center in Atlanta, which hosts the 2,740-square-foot Diversified Agency Services (DAS) data center. DAS executives say they chose Atlanta because it had a lower risk of natural disasters compared to the chance of hurricanes in Florida, floods in New Orleans or earthquakes in California.
Hewlett-Packard gave tech reporters and bloggers a tour Sept. 6 of a new data center it developed for Diversified Agency Services (DAS), a marketing services firm, in Atlanta. DAS is part of Omnicon, the parent company of about 165 marketing, advertising and public relations agencies. While HP networking equipment abounds in the new data center, it also recommended the installation of some equipment from rival Cisco Systems in a few instances. DAS executives said HP acknowledged that some existing Cisco switches should stay where they are because some Cisco routers are more robust than HP’s and because HP doesn’t yet have a firewall product on the market.
