An IT professional's relationship with the network can certainly be an emotional roller-coaster. When the network is functioning properly and performing well, all is right in the world. When it's not (think slow connectivity or poor performing email), it can seem like everything is going completely wrong. And as networks are sure to face a whole new set of challenges in the coming year—between bring-your-own-device (BYOD) practices, the Internet of things (IoT), software defined networking (SDN) and beyond—the love/hate relationship will only become more pronounced and affect the entire IT department, and possibly business on the whole. To explore the unique bond between the network and IT pro, hybrid IT performance management company SolarWinds asked its thwack community of more than 125,000 IT professionals: "If you could say one thing to your network, what would it be?" The responses, while good for a laugh, also speak to some of the most pressing networking issues and challenges facing IT departments and businesses today.
