Smartphones, including Apple's iPhone, are much more than devices to call, chat or even surf the Web. What you're carrying in your pocket is a full-fledged networking device, able to hop on public and private networks with the help of the applications found on Apple's App Store. With today's workforce flooded with mobile devices—on top of the Web—connected machines already in the office—it’s critical to have a view into what devices are connecting to the network and where. Meanwhile, bring-your-own-device (BYOD) initiatives have made security a paramount concern for network administrators, so apps like Scany, which allow you to test network security and find all the devices connecting to the network, can go a long way in reducing access and data protection complications. These apps will also help you view, manage and secure the network, as well as connect devices like printers or other smartphones. Finally, it is always helpful to know how fast your wireless network is running, which is why apps like Speedtest can tell you when the surf's up, and when the network is down.
