At a time when businesses are increasingly adopting cloud computing, the number of connected mobile devices is growing, applications are coming from multiple sources and the amount of data is accumulating rapidly, the network is becoming even more important. That importance was illustrated in the results of a recent survey by Talari Networks, one of a growing number of vendors of software-defined WAN (SD-WAN) technology, in which most respondents said that a reliable network is crucial to the success of their businesses and that they rely on the WAN for many of their most important tasks. At the same time, they're spending an increasing amount of their IT budgets on their networks. Not surprisingly, much of Talari's survey focuses on SD-WAN, a fast-growing technology designed to bring flexibility, agility and affordability to branch networks and a market that IDC analysts said will hit more than $6 billion by 2020. However, the survey also gives insight into the challenges enterprises face with their networks and the efforts they're making to find solutions. This eWEEK slide show looks at some of the key points in the survey of more than 400 IT professionals that was conducted by SurveyGizmo.
