Polycom's cloud-based solution is the cornerstone of the vendor's massive rollout of new and enhanced products. The software suite enables Polycom RealPresence users to easily connect to colleagues, partners and customers who are using other collaboration platforms, including Skype, Facebook and Google Talk, through private and public clouds through a browser and outside the firewall. The CloudAXIS Suite offers enterprises an easier way to collaborate with more people, and it allows service providers to create new services to help expand their subscriber base. Here, the CloudAXIS Suite shows the global directory pulling in presence-based contacts from social or business apps.

Polycom on Oct. 8 unveiled the largest product rollout in its 20-year history, from a new cloud-based solution to new endpoints to new software offerings. Company officials are looking to differentiate themselves in the highly competitive space from established vendors like Cisco Systems and newer, smaller companies like Vidyo and Blue Jean Networks. At the core of the new offerings is the RealPresence CloudAXIS Suite of software, which is designed to enable users to leverage private and public clouds to easily collaborate with colleagues, partners and customers who are using other video platforms, including Skype, Google Talk and Facebook, all through browsers and outside corporate firewalls. The solution not only extends the capabilities of enterprises using Polycom's RealPresence video platform, but also enables service providers to create new offerings to expand their subscriber bases and increase revenues. It also deals with a number of key hurdles in the industry, including what company officials call "islands" of video platforms that don't easily work together. "Our focus is to make it possible … to make all these islands interoperate through cloud access," CEO Andy Miller said during a Webcast conference with analyst and journalists. Along with CloudAXIS, Polycom also is announcing new endpoints and new software aimed at smartphones and tablets, key steps at a time when trends such as bring-your-own-device (BYOD), mobile computing and social networking are putting pressure on enterprises to make it possible for their employees to collaborate on any device, at any time and from anywhere.
