T-Mobile customers can get an early Black Friday gift from the company starting Nov. 21 by taking advantage of an offer for a free 7-inch Alcatel tablet computer to any customer who is willing to add the tablet’s monthly access fee to their wireless account.
The free tablet offer, which was announced by the company Nov. 18, will also be open to new customers starting Nov. 22, according to T-Mobile.
“At T-Mobile, we are unrelenting in our drive to give customers more,” John Legere, president and CEO of T-Mobile, said in a statement. “This tablet deal is our way of saying thank you. Thank you for joining the Un-carrier revolution and making T-Mobile the fastest growing wireless company in the U.S.”
The limitation on the deal is that quantities for the free tablets will be limited, so the promotion is first-come, first-served, the carrier said.
Two other special promotions are also being offered by the company and its other divisions, including unlimited international calling to land lines for all users on an account for an extra $5 per month, and a buy-one, get-one-free offer on 4G LTE smartphones through T-Mobile’s MetroPCS no-contract stores and services.
The free tablet offer that begins on Nov. 21 at participating T-Mobile stores across the United States features the Alcatel Onetouch Pop 7, which runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. The Onetouch includes a dual-core 1.3GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of built-in storage, a 2MP camera and a battery that promises about 280 hours of standby time. The tablet, which is 7.5 inches tall, 4.4 inches wide and is .35 inches thick, weighs about 10 ounces.
It also includes built-in WiFi and 4G LTE capabilities and comes with a charger, a SIM Card and a micro USB cable.
The only up-front cost to customers for the free tablet is the payment of sales tax on the device, according to T-Mobile. Monthly tablet wireless access plans for the devices start at $10 per month.
$5 International Calling Plan Add-On
The new $5 per month unlimited international calling plan option is part of an updated Stateside International Talk plan, according to T-Mobile, which allows all users on a customer’s Simple Choice plan to have unlimited calling from the United States to landlines in more than 70 countries worldwide. The $5 charge is per account, not per line, for up to 10 lines, according to the company.
Also available is an expanded plan for $10 per month that offers unlimited calling to mobile phones in more than 30 countries and 1,000 minutes to mobile phones in Mexico, on top of the unlimited calls to landlines in 70-plus countries, for all users on the same account, according to the company. The previous fees were $10 and $15 per month per line for the land line and land line plus mobile calling, respectively.
The availability of the discounted international calling offers continue through the end of 2014, but the special rates can be kept as long as customers keep Stateside International Talk on their account.
MetroPCS Phone Deal
The MetroPCS buy-one, get-one-free smartphone offer runs from Nov. 19 through Dec. 1 at participating MetroPCS stores in the United States and includes about a dozen entry-level to 4G LTE phones to choose from, such as the Samsung Galaxy Light, according to the company.
T-Mobile has been in a phone plan and device promotional frenzy in recent months as it battles rivals Sprint, AT&T and Verizon Wireless in an ongoing war for customers, revenue and wireless rankings.
The big four carriers have been doubling data plans, offering more services and competing for bigger shares of the market through a wide range of promotions.
