ViewSonic, a company that specializes in visual display products for industries such as retail, health care and the military, launched Nov. 14 a new group of ruggedized handheld computers.
Daniel Woodward, senior project manager at ViewSonic, said the Walnut, Calif., companys latest handheld computers—the V38r-06, V38r-07 and V38r-07a—”meet the demand for a PC that is rugged enough to use in the field for data collection and transmission as it is water- and dust-resistant, IP54-rated and can withstand a 4-foot drop to concrete.”
The new line of ViewSonics handheld computers were built on Microsofts PPC 2003 operating system and Intel Xscale CPU and are designed to work with existing IT infrastructures and tender improved features for productivity such as Bluetooth and GPS tracking.
The V38r product line will allow users in the merchandising, retail, medical and police/emergency fields to track inventory, access important company information and communicate the location of important business happenings from their fingertips.
“The enhancements weve made to the V38r line package a complete, easy-to-use data management system within a single rugged device to bring mobile professionals the information they need, when they need it, regardless of the harsh environmental conditions they might be in,” said Jeff Volpe, vice president of marketing for ViewSonic Americas, in a statement.
Proximetry, a San Diego-based wireless software provider, integrates the V38r with its AirSync EWM platform, which gives users the ability to deliver rich media such as maps, streaming video, voice and other important information.
The ViewSonic V38r-07a includes an abundance of communication and data functions to help a variety of industries meet their need for wireless mobile computing inside retail stores, warehouses, loading docks, postal routes and any other locations that call for application performance.
The V38r-06 includes data communications and bar-code scanning capabilities by combining 802.11 b/g wireless, Bluetooth, a bar-code scanner and a secure digital card slot.
“Performance and ease of use are always priorities for our customers, but a rugged device was the No. 1 requirement for our specialized Pocket PC users,” said Volpe.
Available now, the V38r rugged handheld computers will be sold through authorized ViewSonic distributors and resellers. The manufacturers suggested retail price of the V38r-07 and V38r-07a is $1,899 and $1,999, respectively, while the suggested retail price of the V38r-06 is $1,599.
