AVIcode to Preview Silverlight Monitoring at Microsoft TechEd 2010
AVIcode, a provider of real-time, always-on application monitoring solutions, plans to preview its upcoming monitoring capabilities for Microsoft Silverlight at the upcoming Microsoft Tech Ed North America 2010 event in New Orleans.
AVIcode will preview its Silverlight monitoring technology during the June 7-10 run of Microsoft's TechEd conference. As application development teams continue to focus on delivering rich end-user experience, Silverlight is emerging as a key tool in the .NET development arsenal. Silverlight integrates multimedia, graphics, animations and interactivity into a single runtime environment, allowing users to have more interaction with online applications, therefore increasing the amount of activity between the end user and the server.
AVIcode plans on incorporating Silverlight monitoring capabilities into both its server and end-user experience monitoring solutions.
"Silverlight technology allows developers to enable a rich user interface that rivals that of desktop applications, while preserving the ease of deployment and support associated with web-enabled applications," said Victor Mushkatin, chief technology officer (CTO) of Baltimore-based AVIcode, in a statement. "With Silverlight, developers can implement rather complex logic that improves a user's ability to interact with an application's presentation layer via a web browser. This shift to a more complex user interface further exacerbates the already established importance of monitoring both the server and client-side of web applications in order to truly assess both reliability and end user experience."
AVIcode officials said the company's Silverlight monitoring capabilities will enable monitoring of the execution of asynchronous Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) calls made from inside Silverlight components, overall load/initialization of .zap file extensions and Extensible Application Markup Language (XAP/XAML) and asynchronous call backs. In addition to performance metrics, all exception information with complete call stack and functional parameters will be collected to significantly simplify support and troubleshooting of Silverlight-based applications, AVIcode officials said.
"As enterprises start to adopt newer development and integration platforms, to provide rich user interface for web based business-critical applications to be used with various client devices, the ability to monitor these applications becomes critical," said Milind Govekar, vice president of research at Gartner. "Organizations will have to invest in monitoring tools to reduce downtime, lower TCO of the platform and to improve its quality of service."
In addition to showcasing its upcoming Silverlight monitoring, AVIcode will also feature enhancements to its end-user monitoring solution, Intercept uX, and integration points for both SharePoint and application software quality and testing processes.
