Databeacon Inc. will announce Version 5.2 of its namesake analytics and reporting software at Comdex in Las Vegas Monday.

Chief among the new features in this version is a component called Databeacon PageEnhancer API, which allows developers using Java and JavaScript to customize views of analytics in Web environments by enabling or disabling functions in the Databeacon Insight viewer. This affects display items like toolbar buttons, menu items and report views.

Developers can restrict capabilities within particular groups or offer analytical applications customized to a particular online audience, Databeacon officials said.

The PageEnhancer API can also trigger external programs, such as spreadsheet applications or visualization tools. Other new features in DataBeacon 5.2 include improved use of data compression—up to 70 percent better than the previous version, officials said—for better performance and XML support to allow access to multiple data types.

Databeacon 5.2 is expected to ship by the end of the month. Pricing will range from $10,000 for a five-named-user, one-developer starter system up to $90,000 for a two-processor unlimited-user license. A typical system costs from $50,000 to $60,000, company officials said. Databeacon PageEnhancer API costs an additional $10,000 for named-user Databeacon 5.2 licensees and $15,000 with an unlimited-user license.
