JetBrains, the maker of productivity-enhancing tools for software developers, has announced the release of WebStorm 4.0, the latest version of its integrated development environment (IDE) for JavaScript.

New features in WebStorm 4.0 include HTML5 boilerplate and other Web application templates, easier JavaScript library scope configuration, smarter ordering of JavaScript completion options and custom code folding regions, JetBrains officials said.

JetBrains said WebStorm is known by some developers for "reading your thoughts," or anticipating the developer€™s next step. This release includes that capability as well as it includes support of the newest features in the popular scripting language ECMAScript Harmony release. WebStorm 4.0 adds new functionality onto the WebStorm platform, which was most recently updated in December when JetBrains delivered WebStorm 3.0. WebStorm 3.0 added support for CoffeeScript and Node.js, among other things.

"We always try to adopt best practices that not only influence your productivity but also raise your code quality, and we inspire other developers to do the same," said Alexey Gopachenko, WebStorm project lead, in a statement. "In WebStorm 4.0, we introduced Code Coverage for JavaScript Unit Test, which lets you see how much code is untested €” right as you code. The big idea is to prevent bugs instead of catching them."

JetBrains WebStorm 4.0 is available as a free 30-day evaluation, and no registration is necessary.

JetBrains is widely known for its Java IDE, IntelliJ IDEA; PhpStorm, a PHP IDE; RubyMine, a Ruby and Rails IDE; and YouTrack, an issue tracker, among other technologies.
