Hard Drives Still in Tight Supply for 2004

Notebook drives continue to be one of the most active parts of the storage market, analysts and vendors said.

The supply of 2.5-inch hard drives will continue to fall short of demand in 2004, according to Pete Andreeyev, Hitachi Global Storage Technologies vice president and general manager for the Asia-Pacific region.

Rising demand for notebooks following the introduction of Intels Centrino platform and the emergence of consumer digital products have driven up global demand for 2.5-inch drives. The worlds leading vendors including Hitachi GST and Seagate Technology LLC have already boosted production, Andreeyev said.
