Iomega Integrates Storage Platform, EMC Atmos Cloud Protection
EMC subsidiary and data protection specialist Iomega announced the integration between Iomega network storage solutions and EMC Atmos, extending Atmos cloud-based data protection and sharing to Iomega's network storage product offerings. The new integration gives small and midsize businesses (SMBs), remote offices and distributed enterprises access to any Atmos powered cloud around the world.
The recently announced Iomega StorCenter PX Server Class Series of network storage products features a new version of EMC LifeLine software, which includes the Atmos Connector client software. In conjunction with a service provider, the Atmos Connector software lets a user copy data stored on a StorCenter network storage device directly to Atmos-powered cloud storage. Once a customer's data is in the cloud, it becomes a backup copy to help protect the customer's data from various forms of outage. Additionally, customers can access their cloud-based data from more than one location to facilitate data movement and data sharing.
Atmos is designed to provide management of globally distributed cloud storage for big data environments. Service providers and enterprises can deploy new services with Atmos and the Atmos Cloud Delivery Platform, add-on software that is used to deliver and manage storage as a service to any Atmos cloud. As Iomega's cloud storage service provider in the U.S., AT&T powers its enterprise grade solution, AT&T Synaptic Storage as a Service, with Atmos technology.
"With the integration of the new Atmos Connector in Iomega network storage products, Iomega is taking a leadership position in bringing the power of cloud capabilities to small and medium business, as well as remote offices and distributed enterprise users," said Mike Nikzad, chief operating officer of Iomega. "The Atmos Connector provides a solution for users that understand the value of cloud services from a commercial provider as well as affordable, dependable network storage products like Iomega's award-winning StorCenter lineup of desktop and rack mount units."
Iomega network storage products include the new single drive EZ Media & Backup Center with up to 3 terabytes (TB) of storage, the double drive desktop StorCenter ix2, soon to be available from diskless configurations up to 6TB of storage, the quad-drive desktop StorCenter ix4, with up to 12TB of storage, and the flagship StorCenter PX Server Class Series of desktop and rack mount models.
