MXI Security launched its stand-alone MXP product family on April 10, providing government organizations and large enterprises with secure and portable USB mass storage devices and tokens featuring integrated digital identity, authentication and cryptography capabilities to safeguard information.

Built to protect data being carried outside a companys boundaries by employees and business partners, and also to work in tandem with a customers existing SSO (secure sign-on), PKI (public key infrastructure), and remote access products, the new MXP product line is composed of four components, including two drives and two tokens.

They include: the Outbacker MXP hard drive; the flash-based Stealth MXP device; the Stealth MXP BioToken with biometrics but no user mass storage; and the Stealth MXP Token offering neither biometric nor mass storage, noted Larry Hamid, CTO of MXI Security, a division of Montreal-based Memory Experts International.

"There are lots of companies that need to let their employees and customers and contractors use portable storage—and they absolutely recognize it as a risk," said Hamid.

He noted the severe consequences that any number of federal regulations can impart against companies if a portable device featuring sensitive data is lost or misplaced while under their control.

The Outbacker MXP USB portable hard drive features capacity from 20GB to 60GB, secure digital identities, and offers authentication tools in the form of biometric and password functionality. The product is currently available for $499.99.

The tokens will cost $189.99 and $149.99 respectively.
