Versant Includes JDO in Object Database
Versant Corp. is hooking up with SolarMetric Inc. to get JDO (Java Data Objects) technology into its Versant object database, officials announced on Tuesday.
Versant, of Fremont, Calif., will resell SolarMetrics flagship product, Kodo JDO, and will OEM that product in order to deliver JDO functionality. JDO is an industry standard that enables the use of Java to access a variety of data sourcesincluding a wide range of databaseswithout the need to tweak the underlying data store.
Kodo JDO works with relational databases including those from Oracle Corp., IBMs DB2, Microsoft Corp.s SQL Server and MySQL ABs MySQL. It also uses CICS and CORBA integration to access other types of data.
Manish Chandra, Versants vice president of marketing, told eWEEK that the company will also integrate Kodo JDO with an object databasePoet Holdings Inc.s FastObjectsthat it picked up in its acquisition of Poet, announced on Monday.
