A small server maker this week is rolling out a Linux-based Serial ATA workstation designed to combine with Intels Xeon chips to give users greater hard drive speed and greater performance.

Pogo Linuxs Velocity-DX is the industrys first Linux workstation with a Serial ATA hard drive, said company officials.

The workstation has a Velocity Seagate Barracuda Serial ATA hard drive with a RAID configuration and support for dual 3.06GHz Xeon chips—which feature 533MHz front-side buses, Intels E7505 chip set and four DIMM slots for up to 8GB of DDR ECC registered memory. Pricing for the workstation starts at $1,999, officials said.
