Microsoft used CES to demonstrate the capabilities of Surface 2, the companys next-generation of table-size touch-screen tablets.
Surface 2 runs Windows 7 and is fronted by Gorilla Glass. At CES, Microsoft executives claimed the screen could withstand a beer bottle dropped from 18 inches.
Microsoft executives have suggested the Surface 2 will be particularly marketable toward restaurants such as the Hard Rock Caf??Â«, along with galleries and other public spaces in need of a dynamic visual display.
Hewlett-Packards 23-inch TouchSmart Elite 610 and Elite 9300 place touch screens front-and-center, with a TouchSmart Apps Center on the 610 and business-oriented functionality on the 9300.
HP believes that the ability to adjust the TouchSmarts screen angle will make it a versatile tool for designers and other professionals, as well as retail employees.
HP TouchSmart models can link with a notebook PC via the WiFi-enabled HP Link-Up feature.
The TouchSmart Elite 610 and Elite 9300 both come with integrated Webcams for video conferencing.
Of course, as touch-enabled tables and desktops proliferate, so do tablets and smartphones.
