Adding XML to the Mix

While traditional database vendors slowly add XML functionality, users who need it immediately are turning to specialists. Furthering the cause is Ipedo Inc., which will launch its Ipedo XML Database 2.0 this week.

New features from Ipedo, of Redwood City, Calif., include free-form Extensible Markup Language searches for high-speed indexing, support for Scalable Vector Graphics files and the ability to make a database distributed across an enterprise.

XML transformations—the ability to translate content from any given XML vocabulary into another—are also new with 2.0. Large-document support is also enhanced with the new version, officials said.

Ipedo XML Database 2.0 is available now for Windows 2000 and Windows NT, Solaris, and Red Hat Inc.s Red Hat Linux. Pricing starts at $29,000 per server, and developer licenses cost $995.
