Data integration software vendor JuxtaComm Technologies has filed suit in a Texas court alleging patent infringement. The case names a number of high-profile software companies, including Microsoft and IBM.
JuxtaComm is alleging that the companies in question—which include a number of prominent business intelligence and application integration companies—have infringed its patent for a system that transforms and exchanges data between distributed heterogeneous computer systems.
JuxtaComm originally applied for the patent, filed as US Patent 6195662 B1, in June 1997. The patent license was granted in 2001.

The Canada-based company filed its suit in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas on Aug. 17.
The companies involved in the claim include Ascential Software, Business Objects, Business Objects America, CA, Cognos, DataMirror, Fiorano Software, Hummingbird, IBM, Informatica, Information Builders, InterSystems, iWay Software, Metastorm, Microsoft, Open Text, Software AG, Sybase and WebMethods.
JuxtaComm also has provisional patents for a system and method of managing and updating data from a number of sources for a project, and for a system and method of controlling and monitoring an application in a network—methodologies and software likely used by any number of software vendors.
Its not clear what JuxtaComm is seeking with its suit.
