In order to speed up transactions, McDonald’s Japan is using a "one-coin" price of 500 yen for value meals, making it easier for employees to make change.

The new price is actually lower than it was before, about 42 to 72 cents cheaper than previous prices.

The move was designed to make transaction times shorter, reducing the need for employees to handle 1 yen or 5 yen coins.
