IT & Network Infrastructure : Dell PowerEdge R415 Is 1U Workhorse
Front
The 1U Dell PowerEdge R415 is intended for price conscious IT buyers who are also considering a step to the cloud. I tested the basic, cabled, not hot-swappable R415 chassis.

Inside
The PowerEdge R415 is a two-socket system with 8 DIMMS for a maximum configuration of 12 cores and 128GB of RAM. (Shown here with the air flow shroud removed.)

Shorty
My test unit was sandwiched between full-length servers making it a little hard to get to the rear panel.

Rear
There is some room for expansion in the PowerEdge R415. However the device as tested had only only one power supply and no optional storage or 10GbE network cards.

Memory
The PowerEdge R415 as tested came with 4GB of DDR3 RAM.

Ambient Temp
Running moderate workloads and sandwiched between larger servers the PowerEdge R415 still ran well within normal temperatures without taking the fans to full speed.

OS Summary
The Dell OpenManage server software made it easy to track system configuration including the installed OS, in this case Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2.
