Startup VIXS systems Xcode Video Network Processor and management software package, announced last week, guarantees reliable, high-quality video over any IP network. Based on what I saw when the technology debuted in September, the video delivery system is ready for prime time.
The VIXS chip set and software are designed for a variety of video markets and for devices such as cable and satellite set-top boxes, PVRs (personal video recorders) such as TiVo, and home wireless video gateways.
The VIXS-integrated circuit adapts MPEG video streams bit rates, resolution and formats in real time, reliably delivering quality video, even on wireless LANs. The Video Network Processor guarantees 30-frames-per-second MPEG video over any type of IP network, as long as there is a network connection. It modifies the video stream to accommodate available network bandwidth without dropping packets.
The integrated circuit supports major encryption technologies to ensure content security and enables users to simultaneously deliver video to devices including HDTVs, PDAs, desktops and PVRs.
As video over wireless proliferates, VIXS Systems concept of “video area networks” might be just around the corner.
