Service providers are looking for ways to offer next-generation voice services over existing infrastructure. Unisphere Networks Inc., of Westford, Mass., said the new ATM module for its media gateway will enable legacy carriers to deliver advanced IP-based services.

The SMX-2100 media gateway supports IP, asynchronous transfer mode and time division multiplexing in a single platform to give service providers greater flexibility and economy in providing next-generation voice services. It enables carriers to migrate to voice-over-packet technology while using existing transport infrastructure.

Aimed at incumbent local exchange carriers, the module is due in January for $75,000.
