PALO ALTO, Calif.-VMware has midmarket companies in its sights.
Following its European showcase in February, VMware now believes it has all the pieces in place to bring its virtualization technology, along with all its tools and management features, into the midmarket and create a significant presence in a market that has been hesitant to fully embrace the technology.
The key to success in the midmarket is the company’s ESX 3i, a 32MB bare-metal hypervisor that can be embedded into a server or storage system and offer out-of-the box access to virtualization.
At the showcase, three of the world’s leading server vendors-Dell, Hewlett-Packard and IBM-announced that they would offer systems with the 3i hypervisor embedded.
