Oracle, Symantec to bring Veritas Storage to Oracle Linux
Oracle Enterprise Linux, a feature of the Oracle Unbreakable Linux program, is fully compatible with RHEL (Red Hat Enterprise Linux). Indeed, it is essentially a clone of RHEL. With this latest certification, Oracle Unbreakable Linux customers deploying Veritas solutions will receive enterprise-level support from both vendors. The certification includes the following six Veritas data center software products: Veritas Storage Foundation 5.0; Veritas Storage Foundation for Oracle 5.0; Veritas Storage Foundation Cluster File System 5.0; Veritas Cluster Server 5.0, Veritas NetBackup 6.0 Client and Veritas.
This isnt really that much of a surprise since Symantec has long supported RHEL. Indeed, in March 2007, Symantec announced that it will be supporting Veritas Storage Foundation, Veritas Cluster Server and Veritas NetBackup products on the newly released Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.
"The Oracle Unbreakable Linux support program continues to demonstrate strong momentum as we expand our work with industry leaders to help simplify the adoption, development and deployment of Linux in the enterprise," said Wim Coekaerts, Oracles VP of Linux Engineering in a statement. "Enterprise customers adopting Linux want to leverage the enterprise storage management and high availability processes and standards that are mainstays in their Unix environments. As a result of our work with Symantec, we are making it easier for customers to deploy Symantec solutions with Oracle Enterprise Linux."
