For the iPad 2, Apple used the same wireless baseband solution from Infineon—Intel recently bought the companys wireless business—thats in the iPhone 4. The AT&T version runs Apple $18.70, while the Verizon version costs $16.35.

Here, a view of the 3G/WiFi module from the top. The Qualcomm solution used in Verizon's CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) version of the iPhone 4 led IHS iSuppli to predict that Apple would likewise turn to the manufacturer for the new iPad. Instead of Apple, it stuck with Intel.

The large black square on the left is the iPad 2's Broadcom chip, which includes its WLAN, Bluetooth and FM transmitter and receiver. The medium black square to its right is from TriQuint Semiconductor and provides the iPad 2's WLAN connectivity capabilities. This exploded view of the iPad 2 shows its three-cell flat-pack batteries as well as its rear-camera module (the teeny piece just above the silver back casing) and, to its left, the front camera, which together cost $4.30. To the left of the front camera is the SIM card circuit board, and to the left of that is its 3G module.??í
