Apple iPhone, iPad Get Mitel Unified Communicator
Mitel announced that its Unified Communicator (UC) Advanced software is now available on the iOS mobile operating system for Apple iPhones and iPad tablets, further extending the reach of Mitel's unified communications platform on mobile devices beyond Research in Motion BlackBerry handsets and Android-based mobile devices.
Through a single cloud-ready software stream, Mitel delivers a suite of communications and collaboration capabilities and provides desktop and mobile users a single interface to access all their Mitel communications capabilities, including voice, video, instant messaging, conferencing and presence. The offering also continues to build on Mitel's Freedom architecture.

UC Advanced Mobile for iOS includes the ability to search the corporate directory and click-to-dial from a corporate contact list to place calls through the corporate network; view missed, dialed, and received calls; access visual voice mail from an office extension; manage messages by preference rather than sequence; and automatically update presence status and call routing preferences based on location or time of day.
"Mitel Unified Communicator Advanced for iPhone and iPad, in combination with the Freedom architecture, allowed our employees and our IT department to utilize our existing infrastructure and devices of choice without having to purchase new equipment," said Matthew J. Earlier this month, Mitel reported revenue for the first quarter of fiscal 2012 was $164.1 million, compared with $160 million a year earlier. In the latest quarter, the company posted a net loss of $2.8 million, compared with net income of $6.8 million in the year-ago period.

In August, VMware and Mitel announced Mitel is integrating its virtualized Unified Communicator Advanced client software with VMware View 5, enabling Mitel and VMware to deliver soft phone and mobile-device integration into a desktop virtualization environment. The two companies are combining the capabilities of VMware View with Mitel's UC Advanced client software, giving users of a virtualized desktop access to both their desktop applications and their communications applications, with the aim of making both their desktop computer and communications device (mobile, soft phone or desk phone) available to them no matter where they are.
