Timely Download Syncs System Clocks

Time stamps are a key component of e-mail, usage tracking and system maintenance tasks, so it helps to know that your local PC clock is right. NISTime, a free download from the National Institute of Standards and Technology, will check and (with your permission) correct your system clock to within a fraction of a second. The NIST site (www.boulder.nist.gov/timefreq/service/its.htm) also documents the protocol to use in your applications to ensure hands-off time accuracy. If you run NISTime before synchronizing your Pocket PC and if your ActiveSync options (off the Tools menu) include synchronizing your handhelds clock, you wont need a bulky Cesium Fountain to know how late your flight is—to the second. Youll get through security so much faster. —Peter Coffee
