Heading to CeBIT

Like Eric Lundquist, I too am heading off to CeBIT in Hannover, Germany. Unlike Eric, I've been to the South of France in March, and it's not all that warm there either. In fact, choosing between Washington, Hannover and Cannes is more a matter of whether you like your cold weather to be damp, really damp or downright astonishingly damp.

Fortunately, CeBIT is held mostly indoors. We're going there because for now, at least, this is the nexus of growth in IT. In addition, it's the first big show of the year. Combine Europe's proactive approach to everything from security and privacy to green data centers, and I'm anticipating a lot to look at.

There will actually be four representatives from eWEEK attending CeBIT, so you can expect to see a steady stream of blog entries, slide shows, news stories and maybe some other stuff.

On the other hand, we do intend to take our journalistic responsibilities seriously, and confirm that the Europeans haven't let the strong Euro go to their heads, and as a result we will be doing quality control tests of a variety of beverages and food -- all in the name of research, of course.
