Google's Wallet. Whatever happened to Microsoft epayments?

Google introed its near field communication electronic wallet and even stuffed $10 in it to get you started. This is seen as a challenge to Groupon, PayPal and the other epayment companies -- which it is. However, it is also exactly the activities Google should engage in to close a loop that starts at search and can end at a purchase. I remember when Bill Gates in 2007 at Davos said Microsoft was going to introduce a micropayment system. Put that in the same category as the Microsoft tablet and the big clunky Microsoft watch. You really are seeing a new buildout of the credit system as complex and far reaching as the buildout of the mobile phone industry.
