Recently, we got our first look at the Mobility Radeon 9600 (formerly code-named M10), and were impressed by the early test results. At that time, we hadnt yet tested nVidias latest mobile GPU, the GeForceFX Go5600.
The problem we encountered was the usual suspect when testing laptop-based GPUs: matching the other system components. We looked at a Mobility Radeon 9600-based laptop from VoodooPC, and a Toshiba laptop that features nVidias GeForceFX Go5600. Each system represents the best laptop shipping using each of the two mobile GPUs, and so we wanted to gauge their performance to see which one would make the best gaming laptop.
We expected a pretty intense battle between these two mobile entertainment engines, and thats what we got during our recent head to head tests It was a pretty good brawl, but in the end, only one laptop emerged victorious.
Lets first see how these two GPUs and systems stack up, and then look at our test results.
