In his review of the Apple iPad, eWEEK Labs Senior Analyst P. J. Connolly said the device is “groundbreaking and unique,” but far from complete. Connolly added that some of the iPad’s shortcomings will be remedied when the next version of its OS debuts later this year, but that the platform will remain immature for some time.
The discussion around the iPad at the eWEEK Labs site reveals mixed opinions on the device, but along the same line of thinking as Connolly’s.
Community reviewer Eric Uhe said the iPad doesn’t quite know what it wants to be: a consumer or business device. Community reviewer DESI6N cautions potential buyers about the device’s fragility: “They need to make a more robust unit to be considered ‘mobile.’ Don’t waste your money on this product yet.”
I’ve spoken with several IT professionals who are testing the iPad at their companies as end user clients. Not sole clients, but complements to laptops and smartphones. The iPad seems to be filling a niche for these organizations.
