Argh! Google Users Want to Be Pirates for Halloween

Further reinforcing the notion that we're all easily-suggestible, credit card-wielding lemmings with poor taste in movies, Hitwise is reporting that "pirate costume" is the most popular Halloween-related search term this season, apparently due to the success of "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest." The phrase was responsible for 0.24 percent of all searches during the four weeks ending Oct. 21.

Those who won't be dressing up as a scabrous Jack Sparrow will be realizing their inner prurient self by dressing as tinkerbell (second most popular), Wonder Woman (third), a Playboy bunny (sixth), Dorothy (seventh), Little Red Riding Hood (eighth) or a cowgirl (ninth).

The top 10 is rounded out with appearances by Jack Sparrow in the fourth spot, Dog the Bounty Hunter in the seventh, and Jango Fett in the ninth.

Other stats:
