Google G Poppa The G Poppa increased its search lead for the 11th consecutive month in June, says ComScore, staying on top of the dog pile with 44.7 percent of all searches. Yahoo was second and increased its share to 28.5 percent (from 28 percent), and MSN was third with 12.8 percent (down from 13.1 percent).

Americans made 6.4 million billion searches in June, down 6 percent from May because most of us are on vacation and aren't reading this at all.

Google and Yahoo continue to put the smack down in the tool bar market, too. Google has 49.6 percent of tool bar searches and Yahoo captured 46.1 percent.

Speaking of, Google released an update to its Google Toolbar today. The Firefox version of the tool bar contains five new features: an enhanced search box, safe browsing features, improved feed subscriptions, a send-with-Gmail feature and new preset Toolbar layouts.

The enhanced search box suggests query words as you type them in, much like Google Suggest. Google Safe Browsing alerts you to spoofing sites with an icon.

The tool bar improves on feed subscriptions by automatically enabling the "subscribe" button if a Web page has an XML feed. The send-with-Gmail feature automatically opens Gmail whenever you click on a mailto link.

The Internet Explorer Version 4 beta of Google Toolbar now comes with enhanced search and several other features.

Google recently announced a deal with Adobe to distribute Google Toolbar with downloads of Adobe Shockwave. |
