Vera secures and tracks any file that is created and moves through Office 365, Outlook, and OneDrive for Business.

Cross-platform data security startup Vera has made available new data protection for Microsoft Office 365 users, who Microsoft says now number more than 50 million.

The year-old startup, which went GA (general availability) in April and has been growing rapidly since, literally breaks down IT security to its common denominator: the protection of each file individually by putting it into a secure wrapper. No matter where the file goes, it cannot be viewed by a hacker inside any IT system without the key for the file.

Yet Vera is not exclusively about protecting individual files; the software provides a way for users to protect all their digital content wherever it is moved. This is why it ostensibly is a good fit for a cloud service such as Office 365.

Vera secures and tracks any file that is created and moves through Office 365, Outlook, and OneDrive for Business. Users can even recall email and attachments after the fact simply by recalling authorization to view it.

Most enterprises need to maintain complete control over important documents, anywhere they travel; Vera protects files and other data with encryption, monitoring and advanced policy controls that follow every file, even after it is downloaded or shared outside of Office. This includes the file moving to services such as Box, Dropbox, and Microsoft OneDrive for Business.

Users can automatically protect any attachment, track each file to see who has opened it, monitor where it's been forwarded, and update permissions to the file in real time, Vera said. The app enables granular rights management, including the ability to add dynamic watermarks and automatically revoke access at any time.

Vera users can recall an email attachment, even if the recipient has the file open, by instantly revoking the access from any user, device or cloud storage. Thanks to this universal recall capability, Vera is making a sort of "kill switch" for enterprise data a reality.

Vera for Office 365 is available now; go here for more information.
