Small business-owners (or homeowners) who want to have a well-covered view of their premises are no longer reliant on heavy, bulky security cameras that look like a relic from Cold War spy culture. Today's compact, and dare we say stylish, cameras offer an impressive array of features and look more like something James Bond would be caught deploying. This past week, Flir Systems announced the launch of the FX, a compact WiFi-enabled HD camera that integrates cloud-based analytics and flexible application-specific mounts. In addition, optional accessory mounts facilitate the FX's use in an array of applications, including in-home monitoring, outdoor security, sports activities, vehicle dash-camera recording and more. Users have the ability to stream live HD video to a smartphone or tablet with or without an Internet connection, record video to a removable microSD card, review events that are recorded utilizing motion detection algorithms, communicate with two-way audio and review hours of video with Flir's cloud-based RapidRecap capability. Flir isn't the only player in town when it comes to these cameras, however. Take a look and see how the competition stacks up.
