"We’re in the era of big data and insights, which means businesses need data they can trust–and most importantly when they need it. Mobile business intelligence apps are coming of age with capabilities that were once only offered by super computing solutions," Lynn Lucas, chief marketing officer at Good Technology, told eWEEK
. "By incorporating BI apps into mobile processes, businesses of all sizes are able to make the shift from deploying legacy desktop applications to empowering their employees, customers and partners with real-time data."
Lucas noted the most crucial elements for small businesses to consider when deploying mobile solutions are cost and ease of deployment.
"In choosing a secure mobility platform that supports a diverse set of applications, SMBs can leverage secure mobile apps developed by third parties that will meet their most critical needs–which likely include document viewing/editing, secure instant messaging and file share/access and storage," she said.
While still maintaining a stronghold overall, iOS tablet activations saw a slight decrease this quarter and came in at 90 percent of total activations. Android tablet activations recorded 10 percent of total activations, according to the report.
After dropping last quarter, business intelligence regained its spot as the up and coming app, with over 200 percent growth in total activations quarter over quarter.
CRM apps looks to be the next fast rising star, with the total activations of this app category increasing by a factor of seven quarter over quarter.
The total number of enterprise app activations continued to see significant double digit growth, increasing 20 percent quarter over quarter.
The gap seen in previous quarters in the number of tablet app activations versus smartphone activations significantly closed in the second quarter, coming in at 58 percent and 42 percent, respectively.
Government and public sector recorded an increase of five percentage points in total iPad activations.
"Typically, government deployments begin with email apps, and then expand to more mobile productivity apps and real-time collaboration, including secure browsing, document viewing and editing, and enterprise file storage apps, such as synchronization with SharePoint or other backend repositories," Lucas said.
