HP Unveils Portfolio of Digital Signage Displays

The company offers a broad range in size and price of digital signage displays, from value displays to a 47-inch touch display.

Technology giant Hewlett-Packard (HP) expanded its line of retail solutions with a portfolio of touch and non-touch digital signage displays (DSDs), a line of displays for budget-conscious businesses and upgrades to its mobile and fixed point of sale (POS) solutions.

The portfolio of DSDs has been redesigned with thin, light LED backlights and front-of-screen features with 178-degree viewing angles, automated content updating and the ability to display content in multiple languages.

The company offers a broad range in size and price of digital signage displays, from value displays to a 47-inch touch display.

The 42-inch diagonal LD4245tm and 47-inch diagonal LD4745tm boast Full High-definition (FHD) quality resolution and feature Integrated Infrared (IR) multi-touch capabilities, and offer reduced power consumption with mercury-free display backlights, low-halogen components and arsenic-free display glass.

The two displays are expected to be available in North America in April, and pricing is available upon request, a company statement said.

HP’s high-end commercial-grade LED backlit displays—including the 42-inch diagonal LD4235 and 47-inch diagonal LD4735, are designed to help maximize customer engagement and efficiency through 24-hour operation.

Professional-grade features include networked management to enable control by IT staff, lock-out features to prevent tampering, Video-over-Ethernet (VoE) for simplified cabling and a built-in basic USB media player. Both models will be available in February.

HP’s value-priced LED backlit DSDs—including the 31.5-inch diagonal B321 and 42-inch diagonal B421—are aimed at customers seeking essential features at a lower cost.

Built for extended daily operation, these displays provide a slim design and value-added features, which include a built-in USB media player and streaming networked video support. The displays will be available later in January, according to HP.

"Consumer expectations are rapidly changing as online and mobile shopping continues to grow," Ray Carlin, vice president and general manager of retail solutions for HP, said in a statement. "HP’s wide range of customizable solutions will help businesses of any size navigate this new retail environment and deliver a seamless customer experience."

HP also released details on the MX10 Retail Solution, which gives retailers the flexibility to better meet customers’ needs with the ability to transition between a mobile and fixed point-of-sale (POS) solution.

The company noted the integrated display resolution of this system is below the threshold for snapping apps, a new feature that allows two Windows apps to be viewed simultaneously side by side. The feature can be enabled by attaching an external display that supports a screen resolution of 1,366 by 768 or higher.

Finally, HP announced enhancements to its RP7 retail system, an all-in-one solution with a touch-screen display and quad-core 2nd Generation Intel Core processors.

The RP7 is currently available worldwide, and the Windows 8.1 Professional and Windows Embedded 8.1 Industry for RP7 Retail System Model 7800 will be available at the end of January.
