The EMM solution also includes a software development kit (SDK) that enables the development of secure enterprise applications.

Enterprise hosting, managed applications, managed messaging and managed cloud services provider NaviSite, a subsidiary of Time Warner Cable, announced an enterprise mobility management (EMM) platform designed to enhance data security while simplifying the management of mobile devices.

Mobile device management enables access to enterprise assets, encrypts sensitive data, and enforces compliance and security standards, while containerization and workspaces features establish a controllable separation of corporate and personal data to manage enterprise applications and data on end-user devices.

NaviSite's EMM solution uses technology from AirWatch by VMware, an enterprise mobility management platform provider with solutions for device, email, application, browser and content management.

The EMM platform also complements NaviSite's broader portfolio of solutions, including the NaviCloud desktop-as-a-service solution, managed applications services and managed messaging services.

"Organizations continue to shift from point solutions for mobile initiatives to comprehensive enterprise mobility management platforms so they can truly manage their entire mobile footprint," Kevin Keith, director of business development at AirWatch by VMware, said in a statement. "We're pleased to enable NaviSite's EMM offering with our industry leading solutions that allow businesses to simplify and secure their mobile initiatives."

Other features include mobile content management, which provides a secure way to share, sync and edit enterprise- and user-generated content; and mobile application management, which helps distribute, track, update and secure critical applications, over-the-air, on an array of end-user devices.

"Mobile devices are proliferating at an exponential rate, introducing a new set of security and management challenges for enterprises," Sumeet Sabharwal, general manager at NaviSite, said in a statement. "Our solution enables businesses with a comprehensive, fully managed solution to address their entire enterprise mobility and collaboration needs without compromising on their security, compliance, and performance standards."

The solution also includes a software development kit (SDK) that enables the development of secure enterprise applications for dissemination to end-user devices, leveraging app wrapping, testing, user authentication, geo-fencing, branding and more.

In addition, a self-service portal enables administrators to create new users, generate reports, and administer permissions and access resources, among other essential controls.

The announcement comes a week after competitor MobileIron launched the latest release of its EMM application aimed at the mobile workplace.

The operating system expansion capabilities for the MobileIron release include AppConnect containerization support for Samsung Knox 2.0 to provide an additional level of device security and trust, while expanded policy support for Windows Phone 8.1 includes app whitelisting and blacklisting to prevent unauthorized apps from executing on a corporate device.
