Merging the disparate realms of backup and replication under unified control, BakBone Software Inc. is set to deliver new NetVault replicator technology designed to help customers manage disaster recovery and data protection.
This week, BakBone will introduce NetVault: Replicator; NetVault: Replicator OnDemand; NetVault: Replicator High Availability Option; NetVault: Replicator Plugin Modules for Microsoft Exchange, SQL Server, Oracle and MySQL; and NetVault: Replicator Cluster Support Plugin.
BakBone will release its NetVault: VuCentral Console in the first half of next year. In its first release, the new console will manage backup and replication from a policy perspective through simultaneous monitoring, reporting and alerting of all related operational activities, said Ken Horner, senior vice president of corporate strategy and development for the San Diego-based BakBone.
Horner said subsequent releases of VuCentral Console will feature automation that allows policy management to adapt to an environment, when necessary, to ensure compliance.
Early next year, BakBone is expected to release NetVault 7.4, which will extend support of BakBones tools to NetWare environments.
The underpinning of the NetVault: Replicator suite comes from the companys acquisition of Constant Data Inc. The centerpiece of the new suite, NetVault: Replicator, captures all changes occurring on a server in real time and replicates that information at the byte level across the wire to target destination servers.
David Campbell, systems engineer for the Ground Camera Ascent Imagery Project at NASAs Kennedy Space Center, in Cape Canaveral, Fla., is using NetVault: Replicator to send, verify and secure high-definition images. “We have a specific time requirement to get a certain number of files to the centers in the first hour of a launch,” said Campbell. “[NetVault: Replicator] allows us the flexibility to meet our security requirements, and we were able to replicate to multiple centers.”
