EMC Snags TwinStrata to Provide Hybrid Cloud Integration
EMC ranks among a group of legacy IT product and services providers that are scrambling to keep younger, progressive challengers at bay.EMC, moving full speed ahead with its hybrid cloud storage strategy, on July 8 acquired new-gen cloud storage integrator TwinStrata. Terms of the deal were not released. EMC made the announcement at its annual customer event in London. TwinStrata's self-developed storage appliance and CloudArray software make it easier and safer for enterprises to move data from on-premises arrays to public or private cloud systems.
EMC, which has been busily reworking its conventional data center-centric product line to become more cloud-friendly, said it will integrate TwinStrata's IP into its new VMAX3 converged enterprise data storage system. CloudArray, which fills a large hole in EMC's product-offering list, offers a variety of file access capabilities, file sharing across sites, secure bulk ingestion and cloud-to-cloud migration.
Offered as part of a cloud storage bundle, the CloudArray Cloud Storage subscription starts at 19 cents per gigabyte per month and includes all the costs of cloud storage, associated transfer fees and the CloudArray software.
