As prices for DVD burners have dropped through the floor and compelling features such as dual-layer recording (which can store as much as 8.5GB on a single DVD) have become available, many people are taking the plunge and adding these burners to their systems.
If, like eWEEK Labs, you decide to take advantage of low OEM pricing for these devices, you might find yourself without any software to run it on. Luckily, a copy of NewSoft Technologys Presto DVD PowerSuite 2.0 found its way into my office, and I was able to give it a spin.
Like similar products, Presto DVD PowerSuite 2.0 contains many tools for creating data, video, and music DVDs or CDs and includes DVD copying capabilities. While not quite state-of-the-art in any area, all the tools proved to be quite capable, and I was able to quickly begin archiving on DVDs.
One area where Presto DVD PowerSuite 2.0 falls short against competitors such as Roxios Easy Media Creator is in system backups. Although I could manually back up data, Presto DVD PowerSuite didnt include any scheduled reminder features.
Presto DVD PowerSuite 2.0 is priced at $69.95. For more information, go to www.newsoftinc.com.
