The rugged USB-C is designed specifically for next-generation PCs, including the latest Apple MacBook as well as new models from HP Inc., Dell and Lenovo.
Seagate Technology's premium line of storage appliances, on Sept. 12 unveiled a new product in its line of Rugged mobile drives that features USB-C connectivity and up to 4TB in storage capacity.
The LaCie Rugged USB-C is designed specifically for next-generation PCs, such as the latest Apple MacBook and new models from HP Inc., Dell and Lenovo.
The announcement was made at the IBC Technology Conference in Amsterdam.
The Rugged USB-C is equipped with USB-C cables that are fully reversible in orientation and direction, with no up/down or left/right orientation, so there is no wrong way to connect the drive to a network. LaCie Rugged USB-C is also Thunderbolt 3 and USB 3.0 backward-compatible, thanks to its USB-C to USB type A adapter.
It also features:
--Transfer speeds of up to 130Mb/s;
--Capacity of up to 4TB, the market’s highest storage for its size; and
--Fully bus-powered capabilities, so the LaCie Rugged USB-C is ready to work virtually anywhere.
Like its predecessors, the Rugged USB-C protects data against almost any risk. It is resistant against drops, crushing, rain and unauthorized access, making the LaCie Rugged USB-C tough enough for extreme conditions—from a sudden rainstorm to a crush of suitcases in an airplane cargo hold.
The LaCie Rugged USB-C is slated to be available this month in 1TB ($139.99), 2TB ($179.99) and 4TB ($249.99) capacities, all including a two-year limited warranty.
