Earlier this month, Toshiba introduced the Canvio Home Backup & Share, a network-attached storage (NAS) hub for the connected home that brings together islands of content and allows access to digital content. The appliance works with Windows PCs, Mac computers, iPhones and iPads, and Android-based smartphones and tablets, as well as media streaming devices compatible with Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) guidelines. Available in capacities up to 3TB, the Canvio Home enables the availability of content on a contextual basis across multiple devices, screens and locations. Toshiba's offering joins competitors such as WD's (formerly Western Digital) My Cloud, a high-performance, four-bay NAS solution for creative professionals, work groups and users looking to store large amounts of data. With advanced security features, stylish casings and a focus on price for performance, the next generation of NAS products takes connected storage to a new level of performance. In this slide show, eWEEK takes a look at NAS offerings from Toshiba and WD as well as Buffalo, D-Link, Seagate and Zyxel.
