    Unlike traditional legacy backup and DR solutions, the majority of businesses reported they see the value in cloud-based recovery-as-a-service (RaaS) solutions. Benefits reported by IT pros include the ability to access all applications and data immediately via the cloud in the event of a disaster (41 percent); eliminating data loss and keeping the business up and running; faster recovery after a disaster (53 percent); and condensing vendor management with one platform (25 percent).
 

Many enterprises still haven't figured out IT disaster recovery. There's just so much that can go awry, and it's impossible to test DR systems, except in the case of an emergency, and by then, it's too late. The idea of DR is not to allow downtime, but research indicates this is hardly the case. Every year, global businesses armed with traditional backup and DR solutions lose more than $50 billion due to application downtime—$26.5 billion in the United States alone. As a result, U.S. businesses lose roughly $20 billion each year to permanent data loss, and 40 percent of businesses that experience a massive data loss never reopen.
