iFixit, an electronics repair Website and parts store, has teamed up with Microsoft to create a new program called the Pro Tech Network.

The main goal of this project is to make disposable electronics a thing of the past. The program is free, and offers resources on starting or growing a small business that repairs smartphones, tablets and computers.

Jeff Snyder, director of marketing for iFixit, explained in a blog post that the Pro Tech Network will work to ensure that current business methods and repair documentation will be free and available, even as technology continues to change rapidly.

A European Commission spokesperson has confirmed that the body is extremely concerned about a court decision in New York that orders Microsoft to turn over the contents of email contained on a server in Ireland to federal prosecutors.

This decision appears to place Microsoft in violation of Irish and European Union data privacy laws. In her July 31 decision, Federal Judge Loretta Preska said the location of the data doesn't matter, but what matters is where the data is controlled. However, the EU disagrees and notes that existing treaties provide a legal process for the U.S. to obtain the data.

A digital thief was able to use insider access to a Canadian Internet service provider's network to hijack the efforts of at least 51 cryptocurrency mining groups and steal the payouts from individual miners who participated in the pools.

According to a report by managed security service Dell Secureworks, the attack started in February and lasted four months. It redirected machines performing the mining calculations to cyber-criminal-owned mining pools and netted at least $83,000 for the thief, or thieves, behind the operation.

Hewlett-Packard has rolled out a scaled-down version of its infrastructure-as-a-service offering under its Helion brand name. The Helion Managed Virtual Private Cloud Lean is a cloud service aimed at midsize businesses and enterprises looking to move jobs such as application development, software testing and workplace collaboration onto managed IaaS environments.
